The Sunshine School began in 1964 under the sponsorship of The Junior Auxiliary.  Beginning with 7 students attending on a half day basis, the school was held in a converted army barracks on land leased from Searcy Public Schools.  In 1973, the Board of Directors received state and federal grants and contributions for the building of the facility on Sowell St. That building served our students for 38 years. We are now located at 901 Airport Loop in a new state of the art building that was built strictly from the donations of private, individuals and civic organizations as well as memorial donations from our community.  We now have 81 students, 9 classrooms, 3 therapy rooms, a large multi-purpose room, along with a library and many offices.  As of 2019, we have been the grateful recipient of a donation to completely furnish a large playground.  Also recently donated is the adjoin land.  We are thankful for our very generous community.
